Are School Water Systems Safe In New York?

A report in 2018 says that over a year right after lab tests discovered 83 % of 1,544 school buildings in the city of New York got taps with excessive amounts of lead content found in their water, after disabling ruined spigots, authorities have not updated the public about this yet.

Lab tests at the end of 2016 discovered lead-contaminated water. The Department of Education in the city reported getting rid of any fixtures and replacing them in the system, after which retesting should be done.

But since students came back to classes a week ago, the DOE declined to indicate what equipment had been changed, or provide the total re-testing outcomes. The spokesperson has only stated that water in schools is safe. No indication that there had been someone who replaced the pipes or faucets or simply to look into reviews like hansgrohe talis m review to replace water taps.

The shortage of openness increases alarms right after last month’s exposure by the Housing Authority in New York City that 1,160 children residing in community housing have been positive for lead poisoning since 2012.

Just about any school in the city has lead content in the water lines, based on data gathered by the state.

There is not any recognized plan to change the plumbing. The DOE has assured to turn off each and every water outlet wherever lab tests identified lead in the water. Additionally, custodians were directed to cleanse the water systems.

We will keep you updated…

The level of lead content in school water systems have gotten too high above the normal range. And the state government said that remediation work is ongoing and that the public will be updated on the works being done. However, no updates have been posted nor announced.

The next tests are yet to happen in 2020, the Health Department wouldn’t point out what the city has been doing to fix lead-tainted fittings or plumbing. The state simply leaves gives the obligation to school districts and to local health departments to observe their very own conformity.

So how safe are water pipes in New York City? We can hardly say but schools will have to do something about taking care of the water system for the benefit of all those utilizing the building and the premise.
